Up to now, it was very difficult to get high-frequency VCXOs from oscillator producers. You had to make a lot of compromises. Moreover high-frequency VCXOs are very expensive.
By using our VCXO-ICs series PLL502 and PLL520 this is a thing of the past.
We are not bragging, when we say that using 1 crystal and 1 VCXO-IC (frequency range of 750kHz-1GHz) is child’s play and can be realized at prices that are only a fraction of a VCXO from a VCXO manufacturer.
It is very remarkable that our VCXO ICs can generate frequencies in the range of 750kHz up to 1GHz in CMOS technology. Naturally also PECL and LVDS VCXO-ICs can be delivered with complimentary outputs. Additionally our VCXO-ICs provide extremely low phase noise and jitter values. Much more better than VCXO manufacturers are able to offer.
To equip the crystal together with the VCXO-ICs you do not need any external capacities, resistors or varicaps for the crystal. All these components are already integrated into the VCXO-ICs which offers you to possibility to reduce further compnents costs. You only require 1 crystal with a low load capacity, which can be tuned directly through the VCXO-IC used.
Tuning ranges up to +-200ppm are possible. Depending on VCXO-IC model the developer can choose between multiplicators 1–32 and can reprogram the VCXO-IC at any time – even in the current series. With an VCXO-Oscillator from a VCXO manufacturer, this is not possible. The ordered frequency is fixed.
For example with 1 crystal of the series HC-49/US-SMD with 25.0MHz and the VCXO-IC of the series PLL502-35/36/37/38/39 you can generate the following frequencies with the same VCXO-IC:
• 50.0MHz, 100.0MHz, 200.0MHz, 400.0MHz and 800.0MHz
Or with a crystal of 19.44MHz you can generate the frequencies of 155.52MHz, 311.04 and 622.08MHz.

The cost savings are enormous. For all these frequencies the user does not require 1 VCXO each, which is quite an effort to qualify, buy and store. No, he can get all these frequencies with just 1 crystal and only 1 VCXO-IC. Choose the frequency by selecting the multiplicator, finished.
Our low cost / high performance VCXO-ICs are available in lead-free 8SOP, 16TSSOP and 16pad QFN3x3 mm cases, even in the extended temperature ranges.
As a frequency generator we recommend using a SMD crystal in the metal casing of series HC-49/US-SMD. This crystal has the best possible C0/C1 ratio. If you need to use smaller cases we recommend using our SMD crystals in ceramic packages. Due to the reduced C0/C1 ratio (which is determined by the electrode geometry of the quartz blanks) of the ceramic packages in comparison to the crystal in the metal casing, the tuning range of the ceramic packaged crystal is smaller as that of the crystal in the metal casing series HC-49/US-SMD.
