COMPACT, ENERGY-SAVING AND INEXPENSIVE: SMD SILICON OSCILLATORS

The SMD silicone oscillators from PETERMANN-TECHNIK serve as a one hundred per cent direct pin-to-pin replacement for quartz and MEMS-based oscillators. In addition to very low power consumption, minimal long-term ageing and low jitter values, they are characterised by maximum reliability and a very favourable price level.

Compared to conventional quartz and MEMS oscillators, silicon oscill ators are thirty times more durable and more resistant to shock and vibration. Silicon oscillators make applications significantly more fail-safe and cost-effective. PETERMANN-TECHNIK recommends them for new application designs or as a replacement for quartz and MEMS-based oscillators. The silicon oscillator series includes designs such as ultra-low-power oscillators, ultra-performance low-power oscillators, high-temperature low-power oscillators, differential XOs, VCXOs and VCTCXOs up to 800 MHz, VCXOs, VCTCXOs, stratum-3 oscillators and spread-spectrum oscillators. Depending on the component, the oscillators are available in the frequency range from 1 Hz to 800 MHz in the temperature range from -55 to 125 °C. Preferred areas of application include health and wellness monitors, wearables, consumer products, smartphones, tablets, action video cameras, IoT, smart metering, smart home products, embedded computing, industrial (also for high ambient temperatures), telecoms, medical and automotive applications as well as all transmission and positioning devices based on hibernation technology (BL/BLE/GPS). In other words, all applications that require a very low-cost and very powerful clock generator. Low-cost, low-power silicon oscillators are an integral part of the next stage of miniaturisation and are increasingly being replaced by miniaturised crystals. The disadvantage is the high resistances, which no longer match the negative input resistances of the oscillator stages to be clocked.
