At the standard frequency of 125 MHz, for example, a conventional quartz clock oscillator requires 40mA@3.3VDC, 60mA@2.5VDC and is often not even available with 1.8 VDC. These very low power consumptions for the standard clock oscillators of the LPO series can be realised thanks to the special circuit design. ICs specially developed for the standard clock silicon oscillators are used in the voltage range from 1.8 to 3.3 VDC. In addition, the LPOs are characterised by the standard frequency stability of +-20 ppm over -40/+85 °C and excellent long-term ageing of ±5 ppm after 10 years, which is thus at TCXO level.
The LPOs are available in conventional 4pad housings with the dimensions 2.0 x 1.6 mm, 2.5 x 2.0 mm, 3.2 x 2.5 mm, 5.0 x 3.2 mm and 7.0 x 5.0 mm. For new designs, the specialists at PETERMANN-TECHNIK recommend the housing dimensions 2.0 x 1.6 mm and 2.5 x 2.0 mm, as these very small versions are less expensive than their larger brothers.
In order to save even more power when not in use, the LPOs offer the user a stand-by current of 0.6µA typ. at a supply voltage of 1.8 VDC. In addition to the MTBF of 500 million hours, this is another milestone. It goes without saying that the LPOs have excellent jitter values.
The LPOs can be used in all applications that require a very favourable and very precise clock generator. High temperature and automotive (AEC-Q100) oscillators are also included in the PETERMANN-TECHNIK product range.
The LPOs can be fitted to the same layouts as 4pad quartz oscillators and offer great savings potential thanks to the 100% drop-in replacement.
