How does the LRT technology of vibrating quartz crystals improve the transient behaviour?

The LRT technology from PETERMANN-TECHNIK improves the oscillation behaviour because it is based on LOW ESR Resonator Technology and therefore enables particularly low resistances in the crystal resonator. A low ESR makes it easier for the oscillator circuit to start up and thus enables the crystal resonator to oscillate very quickly, safely and particularly stably, even in oscillator stages with low negative input resistance (Rneg).

 

The transient behaviour is a critical point in every oscillator circuit. Even if the frequency, load capacitance and tolerance look correct on paper, an unfavourable resonator resistance can lead to problems in the real design. This becomes particularly critical with low supply voltages, low currents, extreme temperatures or miniaturised designs.

 

LRT oscillating crystals provide additional safety here due to their very low resistance. The resistance-optimised resonator design reduces the load on the oscillator circuit. This stabilises the starting process and considerably reduces the transient response time, resulting in a lower power requirement for the circuit, which significantly reduces the current consumption of the circuit and therefore increases battery life and has a positive effect on current consumption during operation.
